4 girls sit exams in Accelerated Learning
Four girls in Level three sat for Primary Level Examinations under Abindi Primary School. 11 Learners in Level Two were assessed for End of Year for promotion to Level Three. 10 did not turn up for the assessments.
Accelerated learning is a tailored program for learners who have dropped out of school due to various reasons such as parental negligence, early pregnancies, or lack of school fees, providing them with a second chance at education. This fast-tracked method compresses education materials into a short period, dividing lessons into three levels, each lasting a year: P1-P3, P4-P5, and finally P6-P7, where students can sit for their National Examination Board.
In response to the challenge, the STS (Safe-Till-School Starts) program was introduced in 2021-2022, catering to P.1-P.3 students in school. However, this left a gap for others, leading to the introduction of the Accelerated Education Program (AEP). Although the AEP is part of the Government of Uganda’s curriculum, it has not been implemented. To address this, a pilot school was identified, and qualified teachers were trained and willing to volunteer their time. Local leaders were also engaged to sensitize and identify children aged 12-18 who had dropped out of school.
