Prossy Nyakato’s Journey of Transformation and Growth

Prossy’s life shows how strong faith and support can change someone’s future. For over nine years, she worked as a sex worker to survive, facing many hardships and sadness. Her life began to improve in 2023 when she met Jesus Christ during the Fort Portal Mission, organized by African Evangelistic Enterprise Uganda (AEE-U). She started looking for a new and better path. Today, Prossy has made great progress and found a new purpose.

In 2024, with support from African Enterprise Australia, Prossy enrolled in Nile Vocational Institute Njeru. She enrolled in a course in Hairdressing and Cosmetology, a field that aligns with her passion and aspirations. Her teacher, Angella Nakanwagi, the Acting Head of the Hairdressing and Cosmetology Department, shared that, “when Prossy first arrived, she was very shy and reserved, but over time, she has grown more confident and comfortable. She is steadily catching up with her classmates and demonstrates a strong passion for her work. While she may progress at a slower pace, her dedication and potential are clear. With continued support and encouragement, Prossy is sure to excel.”

Prossy dreams of starting her own salon, aiming to become self-employed and provide a stable future for herself and her family. With one more semester left, she is steadily moving closer to achieving her goals.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Prossy has experienced more personal growth. She shared, “I’m settling in well at school. I used to worry constantly about my son, who stayed with a reverend in Fort Portal. He often caused trouble, and the community would complain. But now, he is in boarding school, and I have peace of mind. My heart is settled, and I can focus on my studies.”

Prossy’s journey has not only brought stability to her own life but also inspired others. During the holidays, she took the opportunity to minister to other girls who were involved in prostitution. Through her testimony and encouragement, four girls gave their lives to Christ and left prostitution behind. They continue to reach out to Prossy, seeking her guidance and support. The girls see Prossy as an inspiration to them. Without AEE’s intervention, I would never have dreamed of acquiring any skills” , says Prossy.

Prossy’s story is a reminder of the impact of faith, support, and education in transforming lives. Her journey from despair to hope serves as an inspiration to many, symbolizing the essence of new beginnings and the limitless possibilities that come with them.
