Agnes’ story

Meet Agnes Driwaru, a member of the PIP (Integrated Farm Plan) farmer group at Driven village. Agnes is a married mother of three, and her husband, Mr. Oguzu Geoffrey, shares her passion for farming. Since 2022, Agnes has been receiving training from AEE-U, which has empowered her to maximize her small plot of land. The integrated farming concept has been a game-changer for Agnes, expanding her knowledge and skills in farming.

With her newfound expertise, Agnes has been able to diversify her crops and increase her income. After selling her harvested beans for 275,000 Ugandan shillings, she invested in two goats and used some of the money to purchase household items. She also developed an interest in growing tomatoes and bought four sacks of tomato seeds for 32,000 shillings. Agnes prepared four nursery beds and transplanted the seedlings into a quarter-acre garden. She even sold some of the excess seedlings to other farmers.

In addition, Agnes rented three-quarters of an acre of land, where she planted sweet potatoes on one quarter and cassava narrow cast 19 on the remaining two quarters. The cassava seeds were provided by the project.

Agnes is happy with the progress she’s made and credits her training and the support of her PIP group for her success. ‘I’m so happy I joined the group and received training,’ she says. ‘My husband and I have big dreams for our family, and we believe we can achieve them together. Thank you, AEE, for the training and guidance – it’s made all the difference
